Some questions and answers about what we believe
Why is it so important for Movement to publish its’ beliefs?
Our desire is to provide a quick reference to what we call our lists of “non-negotiables” which can inform newcomers of the basis of our beliefs and practices.
So what is the basis of the Church’s doctrine?
We simply believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God.
What do you believe about God?
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
What does Movement believe about the Holy Spirit?
Great question and there is much confusion here. We simply believe in the personal ministry of the Holy Spirit given to Christ- followers to empower them to live a Godly life.
Do you believe that Jesus is God’s Son, or was He just a great teacher and prophet?
We believe in the absolute deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
How do you believe a person is saved and able to go to Heaven?
While many of our day believe that salvation and heaven can be attained through being a good person or doing good deeds, the Bible teaches otherwise. We believe in the Gospel or Good News as the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation for sinful humanity – plus nothing and minus nothing.
What is the Church’s belief about Heaven and Hell?
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved in Jesus unto the resurrection of life and those who are lost and have rejected Jesus unto the resurrection of damnation. We further believe that the Bible speaks of a literal heaven and a literal hell.
What is the Church’s position on marriage?
We believe in the divine establishment of marriage and the home as an emblem of the union of Christ and His Church, that marriage is for a lifetime, that children are a heritage from the Lord and that the home is the single building block of all human institutions.
What is the role of the Church in our world today?
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that the Church is the Bride of Christ, the Body of Christ, and the Building of God which is made up of a local, visible body of baptized believers who meet together to glorify God and carry out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.
What is the Church’s belief about the ordinances of the church?
Movement believes and practices two ordinances of the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
How does the Church practice the Lord’s Supper?
We see the teaching of Scripture pointing to the Lord’s Supper as reminder for all believers of the broken body and shed blood of Christ on the cross. We should partake in the Lord’s Supper until Jesus comes again. Furthermore, Movement practices open communion, meaning we invite all Christ-followers to partake in the Lord’s Supper after a time of meditation and confession of sin. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper around five times a year, usually on fifth Sundays and special services around the times of Christmas and Easter.
How does your Church practice Baptism?
Again, with Scripture as our guide, we believe that baptism is for believers to make their public profession of faith in Jesus. It is to be administered by the Church as a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Since the only examples of baptism in Scripture are by immersion, we immerse.
We do not practice infant baptism because we do not see any example in the Bible of baptizing babies. However, we do host baby/parent dedication services throughout the year where their family is celebrated in a beautiful public service dedicating themselves and their children to God.
Is this an exhaustive list of Movement’s beliefs?
No. Simply stated, we believe and attempt to practice what we see in God’s Word, the Bible.
